A Guide to Interning at white+white

Five hundred and sixty-eight… the estimated number of candles I have lit and blown out in my experience so far as an intern at white+white. Being part of the white+white team has given me a great insight into planning weddings and events. From lighting candles and compiling RSVPs, to meeting Matt Moran and watching the groom’s face as his bride walks down the aisle – I have adored every moment.

My friends are often in awe of the photographs I send and would love to be a fly-on-the-wall during a beautiful wedding. However, there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes. So here is a guide to being an intern at white+white.

On a typical day, walk into the studio, pat Zarla, and be prepared with your pen, paper, phone, and Mac Book. You need to check the post office and be familiar with the layout of Office Works.  Sometimes, you will even need to venture to Hermes for an errand… it’s a hard life.

You need to be a good communicator. There are a lot of phone calls, emails, and meetings behind an event. Your Mac Book will be your best friend – iCal, Google maps, Google reviews, Google in general, Mail, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Preview, and Pinterest will all be operating simultaneously. Having a love of chai will aid you throughout your day.

You need to be creative. Beautiful events don’t create themselves. Pinterest is always a good source of inspiration, combined with Tumblr, Facebook, interior design books, and piles of bridal magazines. You now have a legitimate reason to purchase bridal magazines whilst single. The studio is full of creative professionals, so you will easily get some feedback or help if you need it.

You need to be calm and organised. This particularly applies to event days.  Study the run sheet and bring one with you. A clipboard and pen is always handy too, and you will secretly enjoy holding the all-powerful clipboard. Make sure you are well presented and ensure your bride is calm too.

The best part is when you finally get to see all the emails, phone calls, time, and meetings transform into a fantastic affair. Even better is when you get to taste Aria canapés. The atmosphere often surrounding an event is celebration, you will walk away feeling happy, proud, and even a little sad that it’s over.

So now you know. Being an intern at white+white involves communication, creativity, organisation, and can even involve a 5am trip to Tesselaar’s. At the end of the day however, it is all worth it. I wouldn't have it any other way!

Opulence + Decadence

Here is a sneak peak at the vision board we have created for one of our up and coming weddings. The theme is Opulence + Decadence. Drawing inspiration from a unique and bold colour palette of black and gold a very glamorous and dramatic statement will be created while maintaining a modern and sophisticated feel.

w+w real weddings - wedding coordination + full planning

If you pick up the latest Discerning Bride magazine you will come across two of our weddings - Marie + Fabio and Cindi + David. Two very different style weddings however equally beautiful. We provided these couples with different planning services...

We come onboard at the later stages of Marie + Fabio's wedding as their Wedding Day Coordinator. This beautiful wedding was held at MODA Portside in September 2011 on the night of Riverfire. We helped them pull together their runsheet, tied up loose ends and were onsite on the day ensuring the room looked beautiful and the day ran smoothly.

Cindi + David's wedding held at the Topiaries at Beaumont, Stamford took on a 1920's Shanghai feel. We worked with Cindi + David from the very beginning. From finding the venue, getting them connected to the right wedding suppliers and being their on the day to ensure the day was seamless.

Great weddings and memories!

Real Wedding - Mayumi + Steven

What to do with 1000 cranes?

It is good luck in the Japanese culture to fold 1000 cranes before your wedding day and that is exactly what Mayumi + Steven did!

These cranes formed a beautiful crane shower at the couple's wedding. Japanese was also infused in the bon bons. A beautiful Sake Box housed the yummy macaroon which were tied together by traditional Japanese ribbon.

The outdoor riverside ceremony and courtyard reception were filled with pretty vintage touches.

Enjoy...

Thank you to Karen Buckle Photography for these beautiful images and Kristy from Imbue for your florals and styling touches.

Real Wedding - Christine + Justin

We had the lovely pleasure of coordinating Christine and Justin's Wedding late last year. The beautiful rain meant the original garden ceremony at Mt Cootha Botanical Gardens had to be abandoned and the newly renovated Botanical Restaurant was to be the new home for couple's nuptials.

The wedding celebrations continued at the Terrace, State Library commonly known as the 'Tea Cup' room (where Chinese tea cups surround the room). Fish bowls filled with gorgeous garden flowers lined the two long banquet tables. An abundance of tea light candles added to the intimacy and romance of the day.

Photos of the Bride and Groom as young children featured on the tables.

Along with menus and seedings for all the guests.

Beautiful couple + Beautiful setting = Beautiful Wedding

PS. Thank you Vivid Photography (www.vividphotography.com.au) for your amazing images.

W+W featured in the Bride's Diary

The Bride's Diary annual edition has just hit the stands and our very own Hollie + Jimmy's Wedding is featured. What a beautiful winter wedding it was. Ceremony by the lake followed by a long banquet lunch with close family and friends. This wedding seems to have hit a cord with many Brides to be. The eco friendly centrepieces and rustic styling elements really enhanced the beautiful natural setting. Hollie was the brainchild behind all the special touches and has recently started her own styling company www.hollienoonan.com.

The Bride's Diary is filled lots of great styling trends and wedding advice. Be sure to pick up a copy today!

Real Wedding - Mel + Dave

I love this vintage inspired wedding I coordinated last year.

Mel, the beautiful Bride styled the wedding herself. From the colourful balloon bouquets, retro school chairs, playful bunting, heart shaped cushions to the fun games at the riverside ceremony.

Colourful lanterns, long banquet tables with fresh seasonal flowers, vintage plates, the photo booth, vodka bar, vespa bike, the yummy lolly buffet and the cute cupcake cake were all part of the fun wedding vibe at this cool urban warehouse home to Blue Sky Coffee.
The amazing photographer behind these fabulous shots was Rachel Thurston who came all the way from LA. http://www.rachelthurston.com/. The funky stationary was designed by one of Mel's bridemaids Rachel. rachlee80@optusnet.com.au.

Mel and Dave's wedding was so much fun. I wish I could do this wedding over and over again.
